I Heart Saving Money2

Resolve to Save in 2012 with America Saves Week

It’s time once again for New Year’s resolutions, and once again we want to urge everyone celebrating the start of another year to resolve to save money, pay down debt, and work toward financial freedom in the coming year.

Springboard is a participating organization in the national “America Saves Week”, which in 2012 takes place from February 19th through the 26th.

This gives everyone an excellent opportunity to resolve to save money at the start of the year, and then six weeks later, use America Saves Week as an opportunity to evaluate your progress and renew your resolution to save.

How to begin:

If you don’t have a savings account set up, do so right away; but consider an account that is online only or at a credit union or bank with very few locations. The less convenient your savings funds are to access, the better the odds they will remain intact.

When starting a savings account for the New Year, don’t be too aggressive; set aside only what you can comfortably afford. If you are too gung-ho about saving right away, you’ll probably set yourself up for a financial shortfall. Instead, start cautiously, and then in February during America Saves Week, you can decide whether to change the amount you’ve been setting aside.

It’s always a good idea to save money, no matter what time of year it is, but there’s something special about the start of the new year; let 2012 be a fresh start for you when it comes to taking control of your personal finances.
